In Thonigala Inscriptions it is mentioned that the lake in Thonigala was dedicated to Paramakanda Rajamaha Viharaya.

Last day we climbed Raxagala, which was an extremely rewarding hike to Dolosbage Range. We went to bed early as our main itinerary (hike to top of Knuckles Mountain) was scheduled on following day. Got up early and was able to get in to Mathale train from Gampola station.

After a quick hike to Totupola Kanda we were planned to do the Diyagama – Dayagama Trail. On our way back we were able to see Sripada(Adams Peak) in a distance from Pattipola Entrance and I say, it’s a very rare opportunity. It was inspiring and was a good luck sign for the hike.

After admiring the small but stunning beauty of Surathali Ella we continued our journey towards Haputhale. The sky was cloudy and while we were climbing Haputhale Mountain, mist came from nowhere and felt we were in a movie. Though we enjoyed it gave a hard time to the driver. Anyway after reaching Haputhale we took Haputhale – Boralanda route to reach Walimada. The road was in average condition and easily can be managed using a car.

We experienced a dry weather even its off season. Yet it was very cold at night we couldn’t sleep because of the cold and around 2AM we got up and stayed near Uda Maluwa. It was a godly. We experienced the tranquility of this scared place. That day I took a decision to climb Adams Peak every year in off season. There was another Nade who climbed up using Hatton route.

We began our journey from Kadawatha and on our way after passing Gokarella we saw a sign board indicating Uthurupauwa Temple on the left side of the road on our way to Dambulla. As the signboard said it was a ancient temple done by King Devanampiyathissa we were bit excited to visit the place.

This was a very long trip and we drove 1200Km in 4 days First we went to Katharagama and Then Nuwaraeliya and then Trincomalee. So i have started route map from Nuwaraeliya. Road condition is very good till you pass Habarana but there are some road constructions going on Kantale to Trinco… Specially they are straitening the “Yaka Wanguwa”.

Our 2nd day objective was to do the Kirigalpotta Nature Trail and My Engagement on top of Kirigalpotta. But it previous night it rained….. Tent got damaged… didn’t have a good night sleep and crew members wanted to return home so we did Circular Trail. We finished the trail around10AM we had our breakfast on campsite and returned to the Van.

But unfortunately there were heavy showers at night with extreme wind conditions. Our tent got damaged. Water came in to the tent and we had to take a decision and there were no alternative other than returning back to our Van. It was 11.30PM and we started walking on the rain to the Van. Phew! This was a once in a lifetime experience. I don’t think anybody have ever walked around 12AM inside Horton Plains.

Next Day was a big day for us as any of us haven’t been to Wilpattu National Park. Early morning we got up and headed to the park. Mr Chaminda Dissanayake, the owner of Kahala Jeep Safari gave us a great help arranging the best guides and the safari. I can strongly recommend him to anybody interest in a Wilpattu Safari.

We started our journey around 12.30 AM and continuously drove up to Puttalam it was 2.45AM when we arrived Puttalam. From Puttalam there were 2 roads to go to Talei Mannar. Short one goes through Willpattu but it need a 4×4 vehicle and the other one through Madawachiya and joins A14 road.
