Early morning we woke up with the sound mind thinking of the success of the previous day hike to peacock hill. Our original plan was to visit Knuckles on that day, but change of weather pattern gave us opportunity to visit Raxagala/Raxshagala in Dolosbage mountain range. We were determined to visit Dolosbage mountain range when we saw it from Mahaweli Maha Seya.
Night was young when we started the journey from Colombo and it took almost 3 hours to reach Gampola. We stayed at Dhanuska’s place. Next day early morning we left to hike Peacock hill after a tasty breakfast prepared by our friend’s mother.
Alagalla hike was a hike I was looking forward to do since last year but always the weather condition was the limiting factor. I left early morning from Yakkala and arrived at Mawanella. Guess what! as I got off the bus straight away I saw the gigantic mountain covered with a veil of mist which is a peculiar sight.
After a quick hike to Totupola Kanda we were planned to do the Diyagama – Dayagama Trail. On our way back we were able to see Sripada(Adams Peak) in a distance from Pattipola Entrance and I say, it’s a very rare opportunity. It was inspiring and was a good luck sign for the hike.
It was the second day of a wonderful trip and our main target was for the day was driving to the top of One tree Hill (Single Tree Hill) to enjoy the views and to do a hike to Conical Hill which is a extreme hike, other than the locals nobody has done it before. As we had 2 hikes lined up we had to hurry and we left after breakfast around 8.30AM.
Morning Rays came through the window gave us a wake up call for our journey. We had our breakfast and started the journey by 8.30AM. Our main target was to climb 5th peak (The Highest peak) in Namunukula Mountain range.
We were lost in a thick mist, the mist was so thick and I couldn’t even see my friends within two meters. The surrounding was freezing & wet but comfortable. It seemed to me that I am at the gate of the heaven. Yes it was; we were in the middle of a cloud forest.
The date was scheduled as 22nd September, but the rainy season started as expected and the night before the journey it rained and continued till the morning. We planned to use public transport and gathered in Pettah bus stand 7.30AM.
At first you might think where the heck this place is if you are unaware of the history of King Kashyapa. Sigiriya is the utmost tourist attraction in Sri Lanka and Pindurangala is right next to it which is 2KM away from Sigiriya entrance, yet neglected by most of the travelers.
The Wangedigala and Wangedigala Kanda are two different peaks and we were not aware of that. Thanks to Mrs.Sera and her daughter we were able to spot the two peaks and were able to learn the difference. Wangedigala is a rock platform on the left side of the mountain and it’s like a stage and when it looked down from the resort we saw the shape of a “Wangediya”. Most people confused about Wangedigala and Wangedigala Kanda.
Our 2nd day objective was to do the Kirigalpotta Nature Trail and My Engagement on top of Kirigalpotta. But it previous night it rained….. Tent got damaged… didn’t have a good night sleep and crew members wanted to return home so we did Circular Trail. We finished the trail around10AM we had our breakfast on campsite and returned to the Van.
We started the journey from Colombo. We used a Nissan Caravan as our transportation. First day we stayed at Havaeliya and next day morning we started the journey towards Horton Plains. You will need to purchase a ticket before entering Horton plains. Our main target was to cover most of Horton Plains within three days and First day we planned to treak to the top of Totupola kanda. When we arrived at Horton Plains it was cold and Misty.
