Morning we visited Raxagala in Dolosbage range. Many waterfalls formed from the natural springs in Dolosbage range. Afternoon after the rewarding Raxshagala hike we planned to visit the legendary Asupini Ella. It was in my to do list for a long time and have seen the waterfall from a distance when we did Scenic Bathalegala Hiking Experience.
Alagalla hike was a hike I was looking forward to do since last year but always the weather condition was the limiting factor. I left early morning from Yakkala and arrived at Mawanella. Guess what! as I got off the bus straight away I saw the gigantic mountain covered with a veil of mist which is a peculiar sight.
We were lost in a thick mist, the mist was so thick and I couldn’t even see my friends within two meters. The surrounding was freezing & wet but comfortable. It seemed to me that I am at the gate of the heaven. Yes it was; we were in the middle of a cloud forest.
Guys let’s have a cup of tea while loading our lungs with cool & fresh breath from the land of the finest Ceylon tea. Being obeying the “Nade Guru”, the vehicle was parked at a village café. We were moving towards Nuwara eliya from Colombo in this morning.
We planned our journey week after the Sinhala Hindu New Year. Although my wife’s father is from Deniyaya I haven’t been to that place. So i was excited and planned the journey to visit attractions in Deniyaya. We started our journey early as always and we were able to witness breathtaking scenery on the way to Deniyaya.
Our target was to reach Uduwara Falls and Nagadowa Falls and normally you have to take Devils Staircase road from the beginning of the track but Ranjith took us in a short cut which is a steep climb through tea estate which joins devils staircase on the way. It was tiring but saved lot of time.
Bambarakanda Falls (also known as Bambarakele Falls) is the tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka. With a height of 263 m (863 ft), it ranks as the 299th highest waterfall in the world. Situated in Kalupahana in the Badulla District, this waterfall is directly visible from the A4 Highway. The waterfall was formed by Kuda Oya, which is a branch of the Walawe River.
