It was a very long day. Many places visited in a single day and Thonigala was our Final destination. But while we were at Thonigala Paramakanda Raja Maha Viharaya was clearly visible from Thonigala 2nd Inscription. In Thonigala Inscriptions it is mentioned that the lake in Thonigala was dedicated to Paramakanda Rajamaha Viharaya.

It was drizzling in the morning but we hoped and prayed the day to become a sunny one. The long awaited journey to the Chilaw began around 5.30 from Ganemulla. We used shortcuts to get to the Ja-ela on A4 road. The weather seems to be fine beyond this point and it gave us hope to have a great journey. Till we reach Marawila we didn’t stop else where.

I still remember after the continuous rain for days, when we (Me, Shashika, Nirmal, Lakmal) reached Pettah bus stand to board into an Avissawella bus the sky was clear we felt a cold breeze. As always Mother Nature supported us through out the journey… Thank you… Our plan was to reach Avaisawella by 8.30AM but it took more time than we estimated.

Although we planned to use public transport as our transportation method, later arranged a van from Colombo to Moray Estate which saved lot of time. All the credit goes to our good friend Nirmal for arranging the van although he couldn’t join due to unavoidable circumstances. Mate, we missed you through out the journey.

We experienced a dry weather even its off season. Yet it was very cold at night we couldn’t sleep because of the cold and around 2AM we got up and stayed near Uda Maluwa. It was a godly. We experienced the tranquility of this scared place. That day I took a decision to climb Adams Peak every year in off season. There was another Nade who climbed up using Hatton route.

We had a wonderful breakfast prepared by Mathu’s mother and started the journey from Chavakachcheri around 7AM. We traveled with Mathu’s fathers van and the driver uncle couldn’t speak Sinhala but what he explained was translated to us by our good friend Mathu. Anyway we first used A9 to go to Jaffna and then used B268 to go to Kankesanthurai.

We began our journey from Kadawatha and on our way after passing Gokarella we saw a sign board indicating Uthurupauwa Temple on the left side of the road on our way to Dambulla. As the signboard said it was a ancient temple done by King Devanampiyathissa we were bit excited to visit the place.
